The Endocrine Society of India (ESI) was founded in 1971 in Mengaluru (then Mangalore), Karnataka. The first ESICON probably took place not long after in tandem with other major medical conferences in India, such as APICON, and was hence a more modest affair with some dedicated delegates.
Late Prof. (Dr.) Becharam Sadhukhan, then Head at the nascent Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Kolkata (and the first in Eastern India) organized the 21st ESICON,-- the first ever ESICON in the city of Calcutta, in 1990 at Sisir Mancha and IPGME&R , which drew about 300 delegates.
The second Kolkata edition of ESICON (and the 32nd national conference) was held at the then newly opened Hotel Hyatt Regency in 2002; the organizing committee was chaired by Prof (Dr.) B. Sadhukhan with Prof. (Dr.) Debasis Maji being the Organising Secretary, drawing around 600 delegates.
Ten years later, Kolkata hosted her third (and 42nd) ESICON in 2012 at the ITC Sonar- the organising committee was led by Dr Dasarathi Sarkar as the chairman and Prof (Dr.) Subhankar Chowdhury as the Organizing Secretary.
ESICON has now become a leading conference in Endocrinology in India and across Asia, drawing in renowned speakers from around the world. After a long gap of 12 years, we are ready to host the 54th Annual Conference, ESICON 2025. With immense pride and honour, we welcome you all with all the warmth and hospitality that Bengal has to offer and hope you enjoy the scientific feast that awaits you.
